BIG PLANS WITH SMALL REACTORS

TECHNOLOGY

The Future of Advanced Nuclear Technology Starts with Us

For the small modular reactor (SMR) project at Doicesti, we are using the innovative advanced SMR nuclear technology from the U.S. company NuScale Power. NuScale is the first and only SMR to have two designs certified by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (US NRC). The adanced nuclear technology of tomorrow is here.

Proven Operating Principle

NuScale's small modular reactors (SMR) operate on the PWR (Pressurized Water Reactor) principle, which is used in over 300 nuclear power plants worldwide.

Did you know that the PWR principle was first used in military applications before expanding into civil and commercial use? The USS Nautilus submarine was the first to employ this principle in 1955. Two years later, in 1957, the technology made its way into commercial development. The first commercial plant operated continuously until October 1982!

Safe Technology

Safety is our top priority. NuScale's best-in-class, NRC-approved safety features enable our SMRs to shut down and cool themselves without operator action and without any external power or water supply.

There are 7 distinct layers of protection and isolation between the reactor and the environment. The facility is designed to be robust and resilient against severe weather conditions and even unlikely events such as an aircraft impact.

Innovation and Efficiency

NuScale's compact design and Emergency Planning Zon have a small geographic footprint than a conventional nuclear power plant. The innovative yet simple design provides a cost competitive, safe and scalable solution for a wide range of energy needs.

Clean energy in a system that is easier to build and deploy, with lower costs. Everything is scalable and modular, adaptable to the dynamic needs of the community.

Why Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)?

principiu-de-functionare

COMPLEMENTARY

SMR plants are complementary to renewable energy sources. They generate green energy without harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

principiu-de-functionare

INDEPENDENT

SMRs operate independently of wind power, sunlight or water flow, but are able to load follow as a complement to wind and solar.

principiu-de-functionare

RELIABLE

An SMR can operate almost continuously for 60 years, with the possibility of extending its lifespan to 80 years.

principiu-de-functionare

MODULAR

The SMR system is designed to operate modularly. You can add reactors as the energy demand grows.

principiu-de-functionare

SAFE

Safety is our top priority. NuScale's best-in-class, NRC-approved safety features enable our SMRs to shut down and cool themselves without operator action and without any external power or water supply.

EFFICIENT

SMRs operate at a capacity factor (efficiency) of 95%. This means they are the most efficient way to generate energy in the world!

SMR - Doicești, Romania.

A project for generations.

Our mission is to build the first SMR power plant in Europe, located in Doicești, Romania. This is a project that will span generations, because the work we do today will leave a lasting impact over time.

We are building for a prosperous and sustainable community — a project that will create entire generations of specialists and experts both in SMR power plant development and in the operation of advanced nuclear plants. Our project will establish sustainable supply chains with strong links, right here in Romania. It is a project that will generate millions of MW of safe, clean, reliable energy for decades. What we do here and now matters for generations to come..

We generate 462 MWe of energy you can rely on.

The energy produced at Doicești can power hundreds of thousands of homes,, industrial areas and public services, such as hospitals and schools.

We avoid emitting over 4 million tons of CO22 each year.

We generate jobs and prosperity. 1,500 jobs during the construction of the plant, 2,300 jobs in manufacturing, assembly and related industries and over 200 permanent jobs at Doicești, including highly specialized positions.
